high quality Beethoven recording & performance

Hey all,

I'm about to order a Beethoven recording (OK, so I need it for Fur Elise - I'm just a beginner, OK?).  Listening to Schnabel's Beethovan Piano Concertos on Amazon it sounds like a terrible recording...there seems to be some kind of hiss/noise on the recording.

Is this what it really sounds like?  Can anyone recommend a better CD?

Why are you going to order 3 cd's for just one short piece?

NiW, buy a not so old recording, so that you can hear everything in the piece.

I'm trying to listen to more classical piano music so I'm more familiar with the sound I'm aiming for.  I want to develop a greater appreciation for and sensitivity to it now that I'm really trying to learn to play.  (Somehow this seems a bit backwards...but it's the way it is.)
