Robert Schumann
Four Marches
Op. 76
About Robert Schumann's Four Marches
The Four Marches were composed in 1849, the same year as the May Uprising in Dresden. In Germany, revolution had begun in March 1848, calling for a constitutional monarchy to rule a new, united German nation. The Dresden uprising was one of the last in this series of events, and caused Schumann to move to Kreischa, a little village a few miles outside the city.
