Like Liszt, Schumann was entranced and fascinated by the Italian violinist Niccolò Paganini’s virtuosity; these transcriptions of some of Paganini’s Caprices were written already in 1833, five years before Liszt’s Etudes for Transcendental Technique.
The Concert-Etudes are more elaborate and technically demanding than the earlier Studies, Op. 3.
