About Robert Schumann's Bunte Blätter
This collection contains small pieces that Schumann composed during various periods between 1836 and 1849. They were assembled and published in 1852.
A number of them, for instance the Album Leaf No. 4 – originally titled Pain of Youth – were written in 1838 to get through a difficult period of separation from Clara Wieck, who was on tour as a pianist and whose father objected to the idea of her marriage to the composer.
