About Franz Schubert's Three Piano Pieces
The only public concert in Schubert's lifetime to feature exclusively his own music was held in his very last year, 1828. The financial and moral encouragement of that evening resulted in an incredible burst of creativity, lasting until his death in November. The Impromptus and Moments musicaux had appeared in print in 1827 and 1828, and to pick up on that success, Schubert wrote these three pieces in May 1828. However, they were not printed until they were collected and edited by Brahms forty years later.
