This delicate little "musical moment" has sometimes been labelled "Russian Air", but could equally be thought of as a typical Viennese mix of elegance and rustiqueness.

A Subtle Musical Moment
Ballet students from all over the world have likely danced to this charming piece. The left hand provides constant forward motion with staccato divided chords, while the right hand presents a melody with plenty of grace notes, parallel and secondary voices, making the whole slightly more demanding than you might think at a first glance. It is also a kind of exercise in soft playing – there is only one brief forte, lasting four bars, and the entire second page is marked pp or ppp.Background
The Moments Musicaux were published only a few months before Schubert’s death in 1828, but were composed sporadically in the years before. The best-known among them is No. 3, dating from 1823.Forum posts about this piece:
