Sergey Prokofiev
Tales of the Old Grandmother
Op. 31
About Sergey Prokofiev's Tales of the Old Grandmother
Tales of the Old Grandmother was composed during Prokofiev's exile in the United States after the outbreak of the Russian Revolution, and premiered by the composer himself in 1919 in New York City. The Old Grandmother's Tales bear witness to the fact that Prokofiev could occasionally fall prey to the same Slavic nostalgic home-sickness as Rachmaninoff, a composer whose musical thinking otherwise rarely converged with Prokofiev's.
